Half Moon Fishing Report 2016

2016 was another very encouraging season. Rainfall was well below average but despite the low river levels, catches of salmon and sea trout were similar to recent years. There was a marked increase in the number of grilse (4-6lb) from June onwards.

Not many anglers ventured out after dark in pursuit of the elusive seat trout, but those that did were often rewarded with good sport. The best salmon of 15lb was caught in September on a Middle River beat. The highlight of the season was a sea trout well in excess of 10lb, caught at night on the Beam beat in mid-May. As in recent years, several brown trout up to 2lb were caught and many anglers reported good bags of fish for their day’s fishing.
