Halfmoon Fishing Report: 1st–16th July

Heavy rain at the end of June provided a much needed spate and there was a good run of sea trout at the start of the month with anglers enjoying some excellent fishing. Martin Weeks, his brother Edd and Steve Reid caught 17 upto 3lbs in two nights fishing. Simon Powell caught three at Okement Foot, again at night, while Graham Roberts and his partner Val showed there was no need to go out at night by catching five in the daytime: all on dry fly. The grilse have started to arrive and two have been caught, by Adam Barron and Duncan Betts: both fresh fish of approx. 5lb.

The trout has been slow with few anglers on the river. Maintenance work on the home beats continues apace with foot bridges and ladders being renewed and/or replaced.

The forecast is for the unsettled weather to continue with more rain forecast. This will encourage further runs of grilse and sea trout.
