Charles Inniss reports – 1st/15th May
Despite the continuing lack of rain and low river levels, the salmon fishing has been surprisingly good. 5 salmon have been caught in the last fortnight, all on the Beam Fishery and all but one double figure fish. The successful anglers were John Pritchard (2 Salmon), Ron Burton, Martin Weeks and Charles Inniss.
Several small sea trout have been caught and Peter Stemp landed a 3lb fish at Madeira. The brown trout fishing has been slow but by the middle of the month fish were beginning to take a dry fly more readily.
At the time of writing the weather has become more unsettled and the river is rising. Let’s hope this will encourage some of the salmon to move upstream into the middle beats.
It has been a most encouraging start to the season.
